Fishing is the activity of trying to catch fish. Fish are normally caught in the wild. Techniques for catching fish include hand, gathering, spearing, netting, angling and trapping. Fishing may include catching aquatic animals other than fish also. Fisheries and aquaculture not provides fish as a food option but it also provides direct and indirect employment opportunities in the state. The Department of Fisheries is carrying out various schemes for development of Fisheries in the state. In the recent years, a large no. of people in the state have been engaged in aquaculture & allied activities. For promoting Cluster based aqua farming and developing potential marketing linkages Department is focusing on cooperative fish farming through its two apex organizations namely Trout farming Vipadan Evam Prabandhan Mahasangh Ltd and Zila Sehkari Matsya Vikas Evam Vipadan Federation Ltd .To achieve the desired outputs ,sustained efforts are being carried out for socio-economic development of the primary fisheries cooperatives through NCDC aided project. Through extensive financial, technical and logistic support it is aimed to benefit 150 cooperatives with approximately 2441 members benefitted from getting direct employment. More than 10000 project indirect beneficiaries.
