A two-day state-level workshop was organized to strengthen the Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) of Uttarakhand in the context of the International Cooperative Year 2025. The workshop was organized at the Institute of Cooperative Management (ICM) Dehradun, in which FPO operators, CEOs and other personnel from across the state participated.
The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Mangala Prasad Tripathi, Managing Director of HortiFed. In his inaugural address, he highlighted the current structure, role and objectives of Farmer Production Organizations. In the first session, he discussed in detail the role, structure and benefits of FPO to farmers through it. He explained how FPOs connect farmers to the market and provide them collective power.

The importance of leadership development and decision making process was discussed in the second session. In this session, Mr. Tripathi stressed the need to strengthen FPOs by adopting the cooperative model. He said that cooperative based producer organizations can prove to be more useful, sustainable and beneficial for farmers.

In the next part of the program, ICM Director Mr. Anil Kumar Tiwari also addressed the participants. He gave detailed information on technical support, management training and marketing strategies for the sustainable development of FPOs.

Representatives of various Farmer Production Organizations, FPO CEOs, managers and personnel from across the state participated enthusiastically in this workshop. The participants described the workshop as extremely useful and expressed the need for such events in the future as well.

The objective of the workshop is to transform FPO into a strong structure based on the principles of cooperation and to make the farmers self-reliant and organized.
